Every dog owner wants their dog to listen and be obedient. Our world largely achieves this through reward and reprimand to encourage or discourage certain behaviours. In nature, these constructs do not exist; instead, desirable behaviours stem naturally from a balanced state of mind. This behaviour does not need reward to be encouraged. Dog behaviourism focuses on understanding how to influence—not control—a dog’s mind, so that it is balanced.
